FTP Upload Error: 550 Can't Access File - Storage Quota Limit Reached Print

  • 0

Overview

If you are receiving the following error while uploading files via FTP or FileZilla, it means your storage quota limit has been reached:

Command: STOR filename.pptx
Response: 550 Can't access file, no file handle.
Error: Critical file transfer error

This is not a connection issue. This error occurs when your FTP folder has reached its maximum storage limit assigned to your hosting package. The server will automatically block any new file uploads until space is freed up or your package is upgraded.

Common Symptoms

  • File uploads fail with "Critical file transfer error"
  • FTP client shows "550 Can't access file, no file handle"
  • Some files upload successfully but others fail
  • You are able to log in to FTP but cannot upload new files

Cause

Every hosting package includes a fixed storage quota limit. For example:

  • Basic Package → 10GB storage
  • Business Package → 20GB storage
  • Premium Package → 30GB storage

When your folder reaches this limit, the server automatically blocks further uploads to protect the storage allocation.

How To Resolve

Option 1: Delete Unnecessary Files

  1. Log in to your FTP account using FileZilla or any FTP client
  2. Browse your folders and identify old or unnecessary files
  3. Delete files you no longer need to free up space
  4. Try uploading again
